We’ve been in business since 1978, so we know a thing or two about hardware!
Initially Trading as H&D Timber & Hardware, we are one of the oldest family owned hardware stores in the Hunter. We recently changed our trading name to H&D Building Supplies to highlight our commitment to local tradies who remain at the centre of everything we do. This part of our business has a proud history of delivering first class service. The nucleus of our business was a small hardware store which opened in Raymond Terrace in 1978. Initially owned by the Haynes and Duffy families, H&D Timber & Hardware originally traded under the ‘Home Hardware’ banner. The Haynes family assumed outright ownership in the 80s and the business continued to flourish. In 2009 we outgrew our original site in the Raymond Terrace commercial precinct and moved to our current location in the Heatherbrae industrial area.
As the hardware business grew, it emerged that there was a market for timber products and the business opened a timber mill in 1982. Since then, we’ve been supplying other local businesses, tradies and renovators with custom made timber products used in manufacturing, transportation and construction. More recently we saw an opportunity to manufacture hardwood pegs and stakes and have become one of the largest suppliers of survey, concrete and landscape pegs in Australia.
In more recent years, we saw the opportunity to service other trades more efficiently, so we opened a specialty fasteners business which trades as Select Fasteners … and now also run a commercial paint franchise, Paint Place Heatherbrae which is located inside the same building as H&D Building Supplies.
We have always tried to introduce new products and services that add value for our customers and create a point of difference for our business. For example, in 2019 we commenced selling modular (flat pack) kitchens supplied by Hafele, one of the world’s leading kitchen manufacturers. So, whether you’re a tradesman, renovator or DIY handyman (or woman!) you literally can now get almost everything to build or renovate a home from H&D—right down to the kitchen sink!
